Day #38: Arzua to Arco O Pino (Pedrouzo), 19.2km

05.24.2010

The weather was cloudy and cool this morning.  The path was fairly level, with rolling hills, nothing too strenuous.  It was probably the most pleasant day of walking so far.

Just before Calzada, I came across Jim & Martha, the hospitaleros from Rabanal del Camino.  I walked with Martha (and Jim trailing just behind us) for a bit.  We had cafe con leches together in Calzada before going our separate ways. It's always good to see familiar faces again.

I made it to Pedrouzo around 1:30p and found the Porta de Santiago Albergue to check into.  I got a shower in and a snack before it started raining.  It rained hard!  Then there was thunder and lightning.  Absolutely crazy weather.  It looks to be a wet day tomorrow, too.  Just my luck.  :)

I went to Cafe Trebol, just down the street for a late lunch/early dinner.  I was the only person in the place.  I ordered a plato combinado (eggs, french fries, bacon and salad) and a cafe con leche.  The prices were very reasonable and the staff was very kind.

I returned to the Albergue and got a short nap in, then went for a walk around town.  I found a grocery store and bought a few things to eat in the morning.

At the Albergue, I met another woman from Bilbao.  I never got her name, but we had a nice conversation about the Camino Norte and Primativo.  She had walked portions of each from Santander before joining the Camino Frances.

I went to bed early, in anticipation of tomorrow.  Santiago.  20km to go and I am done!  So hard to believe.
