A Taste of Maui: Local Boys Shave Ice
I love shave ice!!! We had it twice while visiting Maui, both times at Local Boys Shave Ice. Our first time was at the Kihei shop and our second time was at the Lahaina shop. I would have to say my favorite is the one in Kihei. Nice, chill vibe, with less tourists. The young woman working there was very nice and really helpful when we asked for her recommendations.
I found Local Boys Shave Ice to be light and fluffy. The kauai cream makes it smooth and delicious. The vanilla ice cream at the bottom adds a different texture while soaking up the excess flavored syrup as you finish off this delectable treat.
In Kihei, we got our shave ice and sat on a bench around the corner from the stand. While we were eating we had numerous people ask us where we got it and if it was any good. Of course we told them where we got it and to make sure to get the kauai cream on top with the vanilla ice cream on the bottom!
Bonus points for giving free shave ice to Maui EMS, Firefighters and Police. Hmmm, maybe I should move to Maui and become a Paramedic!
This trip was won by me from the Maui Visitors and Convention Bureau. This was NOT a press trip. There was no expectation or requirement for me to write about my experiences, but I am. Accommodations, car rental, airfare and snorkeling trip for two were all a part of the package. I brought along a good friend of mine who shares a similar travel philosophy. The original trip was for six nights, but we paid out of pocket for two extra nights accommodations and car rental. We were responsible for all of our food, gas and other expenses while on the island. All opinions are mine and you will find me to be quite honest about my experiences.
My first shave ice ever! It's the Snow White with kauai cream on top and vanilla ice cream on the bottom. |
