Food Review: Cream Bakery, Madrid, Spain

The unassuming entrance to Cream Bakery.

Imagine being far, far away from home.  Imagine craving something familiar.  Imagine being able to find that in the middle of Madrid.  Cream Bakery is such a place where one can find the most delicious cupcakes and confections and wash them down with a nice Italian espresso.

I heard about Cream Bakery from a British friend of mine.  I was looking for unique places in Madrid not in the guidebooks and Cream Bakery fit the bill.  I have not been able to find any other reference to this lovely spot (in English anyways) and it gives me great pleasure to share the experience with others so they may try the goodness this bakery produces.

Paula Machin is the owner extraordinaire of Cream Bakery.  Her main focus is cupcakes but when we stopped in she was working on a last minute order for Estee Lauder and a cake in the form of the Chevrolet bow tie.  As you can see from the photo below, she also specializes in wedding cakes.  She can do it all!

Paula offers a rotating selection of cupcakes.  She has the standard chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, along with Oreo, carrot cake, and red velvet.  I chose the Oreo cupcake and a shot of espresso for my afternoon snack.  My sister and our other travel companion each had a red velvet cupcake.  I can only speak for my experience with the Oreo cupcake.  It was delicious.  It was the perfect size.  Not too big, not too small.  The cake was moist and not too sweet.  The frosting was reminiscent of the white filling in an Oreo cookie, but much softer and tasty.  For a cupcake and an espresso, it ran just under 5 Euros, which I thought was decent for the quality of the product.  If you are ever in Madrid, please look up Creme Bakery, you will not be disappointed.
